Chapter Five

nate was his perfect guy. but he couldn’t say that, and kit resorted to humor when he felt uncomfortable. so he dusted off his “cowboy clive” voice — which was one of his simvid characters that nate loved the most.

kit started and carried on in his exaggerated voice as nate burst into giggles — it was always giggles with kit, a little more enthusiastic than just laughs. it made kit feel like a king. “don’t send me no pansy boy. i’m talkin’ about a man. a man to help around the farm, of course. need someone to milk the cows…” he produced a skit for nate off the top of his head, holding onto character as he did it through nate’s laughter.

cowboy clive was a caricature of a pure-blooded, completely heterosexual male who was only gay sometimes (all. the. time.)… and also nate’s favorite voice. there was a stupid amount of irony in that fact alone. but kit wasn’t anybody’s therapist and he hadn’t prodded that particular flashing neon sign of obvious-ness…

it just… it didn’t mean anything.
