Chapter Seven

“better get to work before i’m late,” nate announced in the midst of his roommates’ drinking and teasing each other and loud chatter. he was almost to the door before kit pounced, wrapping him up from behind in a hug that literally swung him around, and showering kisses down the side of nate’s neck.

nate immediately broke into laughter, squirming to get away from kit’s lips. he didn’t bother to tell kit to stop – hadn’t for a while, actually – it was all too playful and silly and kit didn’t listen to him anyway. probably because he could never say it with a straight face.

nate pulled away and hugged kit to his chest instead. “you stopping by the bar tonight to keep me company?” he wondered if he sounded as hopeful as he felt.

he felt kit shrug against his body and sigh before answering, “not sure. if i can talk the guys into it. ash has his heart set on dancing, i think. and they’re all complaining i never hang out with them enough.”

because of course kit had other friends – he was too awesome not to have a hundred, a thousand friends – and of course they wanted time with kit too. didn’t mean nate had to like it. “ah,” he said, instead of complaining. “well you should bring them. i wanna meet them.” he didn’t, actually. he kind of just wanted to erase them. but he recognized how selfish that was and didn’t, obviously, really mean it.

“maybe,” kit hedged, and nate tried not to care. “we’ll see.”
