Chapter Seven

kit demanded, which nate ignored. but he still grinned because he always felt stupidly pleased whenever kit called him by a pet name; because, apparently, he was like some kind of teenage-girl with a crush wherever kit was concerned. and also because kit flirted with literally everyone but whenever he said ‘babe’ or ‘baby’ or ‘bae’ he was always talking to nate or about nate.

yeah, okay. nate was a twelve year old preteen. whatever. he liked kit — that was news to literally no one — and he wasn’t trying to hide it or avoid it or deny it. he just… he liked everything about kit. even this stupid snowman building thing and his current frozen obsession.

he liked kit and he just wanted kit to like him back. there was a juvenile “check yes or no note” joke in there somewhere, he was sure. but it just… kind of sucked. nate actually wished he was gay; if he was then he’d marry this guy for sure. together they had everything that nate wanted in a relationship, that nate thought relationships were supposed to be about, except the one thing. at this point he fucking wanted to be — he really did — he just wasn’t hot for kit. not like that.

he was every-fucking-thing else for kit. just not that. anyway, it was probably better… kit had already told him that he wasn’t the perfect guy. well not in so many words, but basically. and nate wasn’t really angling to have his heart broken any time soon.

which was why it was perfect this way. that he could just enjoy every single second of kit and not angst about the whole unrequited thing, because it wasn’t like he wanted to hook-up with kit anyway, and he didn’t have to worry over the fact that kit clearly didn’t want him either. nate was just a bartender with absolutely no clue what he wanted out of life and even he knew that he wasn’t good enough for kit. kit was out of his league for sure.
